Okavango Delta
Okavango Delta
The Okavango Delta is one of the world’s largest inland deltas, located in the northwest of Botswana. It is a unique and biodiverse ecosystem formed by the Okavango River, which flows into the Kalahari Desert but does not reach any sea. Instead, the river’s waters spread across a vast, lush floodplain, creating a network of channels, lagoons, and islands. The delta is renowned for its stunning beauty and abundant wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, hippos, crocodiles, and over 400 species of birds. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site and a premier safari destination, offering extraordinary game viewing, particularly during the annual flood season when the wildlife congregates around the water sources. The Okavango Delta supports a variety of habitats, from permanent waterways to seasonal floodplains, making it a crucial area for both wildlife conservation and eco-tourism.
